Cold, clear hill water runs through the Dhalai at Bholaganj, though looters stripped most of the stones from its riverbed in 2024 and 2025.
The Dhalai comes down from the Meghalaya hills and spreads across a broad bed of stones at Bholaganj. Boats leave the ghat for the old white-stone area. Much of the stone was dug out after August 2024, leaving holes in the riverbed, so the depth can change suddenly.

June to October, when the river has a good flow. Avoid visiting the day after very heavy rain.
Follow the Sylhet–Bholaganj road to the 10 no. ghat, then take a 15-minute boat ride.
The ghat counter charges a fixed fare for the return boat journey.
Stone looting spread across Sylhet’s quarries after August 2024. By August 2025, most of Sada Pathor’s white stones had been carried away. The authorities began returning recovered stones that August, but only a portion has been put back. Before setting out, look at recent photographs or ask local people about the current conditions. Bring dry clothes and leave valuables in the car.
