On 2 August 2026 the Sunamganj district administration banned all houseboats and tourist boats from Tanguar Haor’s Ecologically Critical Area until further notice, under the Tanguar and Hakaluki Haor Protection Order, 2025. Some Bangla reports describe it as covering all engine-driven boats. Boat operators must also register with the district. We found no report of the ban being lifted by October 2026, so ask your operator, and the Sunamganj district administration or the Tahirpur upazila office, what is allowed before you book or pay.

Bojra is a barge-style houseboat about 71 feet long, launched in 2021 by the tour company B-Travellers and inspired by the bajra boat Rabindranath Tagore used at Shilaidaha. Its two-day, one-night trips start from Sahebbari Ghat in Sunamganj town and have covered Tanguar Haor, Barikka Tila and Niladri (Shahid Siraj) Lake. Cabins line both sides and sleep up to about 18 guests, with a lounge, a bathroom and meals cooked on board.
